June 2024 - Japan

Unsaved Changes

When I traveled to Japan, I felt like I was seeing the world with the eyes of a child, completely spellbound by its beauty, its contrasts, its quiet magic. I photographed obsessively, trying to hold on to the feeling, to make sense of it.
When I plugged my hard drive in to edit the pictures, the surprise, it didn't work anymore, most of my images were lost. Some of the ones I managed to recover were corrupted: cut in half, glitched, soaked in shades of magenta and red. At first, I was devastated. Then I realized those fragments mirrored something true: how my experience of Japan had lodged itself in me. Broken, dreamlike, vivid.
These images aren’t what I planned to make, but they’ve become a visual trace of wonder, obsession, and longing.
I will come back.
